How much calcium do kids need?

Tweens and teens can get most of their daily calcium from:

  • 3 cups of low-fat or fat-free milk (900 mg of calcium), AND
  • Additional servings of calcium-rich foods to get the 1,300 mg of calcium necessary to build strong bones for life.

Starting around age nine, young people need almost twice as much calcium.

Green Bean Supreme

3tbs. Four
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
1 tsp. Sugar
½ tsp. Chopped onion
1-cup sour cream
½ cup grated cheddar cheese
½ cup corn flakes
3 cups of canned or cooked green beans

Melt the butter. Add flour and mix, add seasonings and sour cream . Fold in drained beans. Pour in a casserole dish. Top with cheddar cheese and crushed corn flakes mixed with 1 tbs  melted butter. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

Chocolate Chip Cheesecake

 

1 1/2 c. finely crushed creme-filled chocolate sandwich cookies (about 18 cookies)

3 (8-oz.) pkgs. cream cheese, softened

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 teaspoon flour

1 (14-oz.) can of Eagle Brand milk

1/4 c. margarine, melted

3 eggs

1 c. mini chocolate chips

 

Preheat oven to 300 F.  Combine crumbs and margarine.  Pat firmly on bottom of 9-inch springform pan.  In a large mixing bowl beat cheese until fluffy.  Add Eagle Brand; beat until smooth.  Add eggs and vanilla; mix well.  In small bowl toss together 1/2 cup of chips with flour to coat; stir into cheese mixture.  Pour into prepared pan.  Sprinkle with remaining chips evenly over top.  Bake 1 hour or until cake springs back when lightly touched.  Cool to room temperature; chill.  Remove side of pan.  Garnish as desired.
